JOB PURPOSE: The Project Manager is responsible for management of complete application system projects to customer specifications/satisfaction. The position oversees the completion of project tasks and monitors adherence to project management process standards. They apply their knowledge of best practices for project administration to their key duties, including resource allocation & supervision within the project responsibility, task planning, and progress reporting. Project Managers are directly responsible for managing projects in both Automotive and General Industry fields. These projects include manual, automatic, machine/robotic liquid spray application systems, powder application systems and high viscosity application systems.

Job Purpose

Project Managers are directly responsible for managing projects in both Automotive and General Industry fields. These projects include manual, automatic, machine/robotic liquid spray application systems, powder application systems and high viscosity application systems.
 
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Direct responsibility to control costs, to an established budget, in all areas impacted by labor, materials, equipment & services
  • Planning, coordination, supervision & support of material application systems engineering, modular build, installations & commissioning in both Automotive & General Industry arenas
  • Creating project timeline from purchase order received to project sign-off
  • Organization & leading of project status meetings. Direct responsibility to ensure project milestones/critical paths are followed, met, and managed to eliminate negative impact to our customer
  • Create detailed scope of work for equipment, material, and services
  • Lead bid meetings with provision of clear scope of work and design specifications to ensure accurate and cost competitive bids are obtained
  • Lead field installation services, including but not limited to the following:
On-site field studies
On-site kickoff meetings & various project coordination events with customers
Installation services, including commissioning support, on-site production support, punch list management to closure, and post install training
  • Coordinate creation of recommended spare parts list
  • Coordinate creation of system training and user manuals
  • Ensure Field Service reports are completed and communicated to the team
  • Maintain job closing report showing profitability and creating lessons learned document for presentation
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with diverse audiences, in both oral and written contexts
  • Ability to make a good and competent impression right from the first contact
  • Ability to inspire cooperation and teamwork with internal and external customers
  • Technical background, preferably in automation
  • Ability to troubleshoot and lead root cause analysis efforts
  • Superb organizational skills; Keen Attention to Detail
  • Comfortable giving and receiving feedback in constructive manner
  • Extremely high standard and a low threshold for errors or inefficient processes
  • Ability to adapt, improvise, overcome changes and setbacks, and maintain professionalism in high-stress situations
  • Ability to work with basic hand and power tools
Other Desired Skills, Experience, Traits
  • 3 years project management experience (multiple engineering disciplines, manufacturing/systems environment).
  • Experience with robotic application equipment, processes and Industrial automation
  • Experience with production, maintenance and training programs from Tier 1, OEM or mainline manufacturing systems
  • Experience with project management tools
  • Experience in technical training/curriculum
Formal Education and/or Training Required
  • Engineering/Business degree preferred
  • Full consideration will be credited for work experience/history
  • Demonstrated ability to use Word, Excel, MS Project in a technical environment
Working Environment and Physical Requirements
  • Primary – Sames NA Plymouth, MI Office
  • Secondary – Customer plant locations as needed for sub-contractor walk through, scope review with customer, or misc. duties associated with project execution
  • May involve exposure to hazardous materials (paint, solvents, etc.)
  • May require periods of standing, bending, lifting (up to 25lbs)
  • Will require some travel to outside locations (10-15%)
SAFETY / HSE (required authorizations + broader needs
  • Know how to identify and react in dangerous situations
  • Know how to analyze priority environmental and safety aspects and implement relevant actions
Hybrid Opportunity: At minimum, the first 6 months of the job will be in person.
