Description

This process is particularly suited to premium cosmetic, fragrance and beverage glass containers where appearance consistency and flawless decoration are essential.
Drums of waterborne paint are placed on an insulated table together with a pump that supplies the paint to the rotary bell through insulated hoses.
Precise paint dosing is achieved using either a pressure regulator or a gear metering pump integrated into the paint antenna.
The entire installation, including the paint drums, pumps, hoses, and sprayer, is raised to high-voltage potential by a single external high-voltage cascade. This configuration enables the electrostatic application of waterborne paints, combining excellent transfer efficiency with superior coating quality.
Access to the insulated platform is secured by safety barriers and is prohibited while the system is energized. Whenever operators need to handle the paint drums or perform maintenance on the equipment, the high-voltage supply is automatically switched off and the system is grounded through a short-circuit grounding device, ensuring maximum operator safety through a fail-safe process.
The rotary bell remains in a fixed position while the glass containers travel in front of it on a linear conveyor. During the coating process, each glass rotates around its own axis to ensure complete and uniform coverage.
Thanks to the wide spray pattern generated by the rotary bell, a single bell can coat glass containers at high production rates. In addition, electrostatic assistance attracts the charged paint droplets toward the containers, creating a wrap-around effect that improves coating coverage while significantly reducing overspray. The grounded metallic holders supporting the glasses play a key role in establishing the electrostatic field and promoting paintattraction to the target.
The combination of rotary bell atomization and electrostatic assistance provides highly uniform film build, helping manufacturers achieve consistent color rendering and appearance across production batches.
As a general rule, one electrostatic rotary bell can often replace three to four conventional non-electrostatic spray guns while maintaining the same production output.

Main benefits

Efficiency: up to +50% transfert efficiency thanks to the better wrap-around effect of bell compared to gun

Coating quality: Achieve uniform coating thickness with excellent coverage, even, thanks to Sames' powerful electrostatic effect.
Productivity: only 1 rotary bell does the job of 3 to 4 conventional airspray guns

Glass coating FAQ

Let's get in touch
  • Is the color rendering function of the coating thickness?

Most decorative glass coatings are partially transparent or translucent. As the coating thickness increases, the amount of light transmitted, absorbed, and reflected changes, which can significantly affect color intensity, opacity, gloss, and visual consistency. Even small thickness variations may result in visible color differences between bottles or between production batches.
For this reason, precise control of coating flow rate and film build is essential. Sames rotary bell technology delivers precise paint application along with excellent film thickness uniformity, helping manufacturers achieve consistent color rendering and premium visual quality while minimizing paint consumption.
  • Can waterborne paints be applied electrostatically on glass bottles?

Yes. Electrostatic application of waterborne coatings on glass bottles is a proven and highly effective industrial process.
Sames Internal Charge Waterborne (ICWB) and EXTernal charge waterborne (EXT) solutions are specifically designed to safely apply waterborne paints with electrostatic assistance while maintaining excellent coating quality, high production throughput, and reduced material consumption.
  • Is electrostatic rotary bell technology suitable for premium cosmetics, perfume and beverage glass packaging?

Absolutely. Electrostatic rotary bell technology is particularly well suited for premium cosmetic, perfume, beverage, and specialty glass packaging.
These markets demand flawless appearance, color consistency, and high-quality surface finishes. Rotary bell atomization produces extremely fine and uniform droplets, enabling smooth coatings with excellent visual aesthetics. Combined with electrostatic assistance, the technology provides superior coverage, including around complex bottle geometries, while limiting paint waste.
The result is a premium finish that enhances brand image, increases production efficiency, and supports sustainable manufacturing goals through reduced material consumption.
  • Does Sames have industrial references for electrostatic coating of glass containers?

Yes. Sames has decades of experience and numerous industrial references in the electrostatic coating of glass containers worldwide.
For many years, leading manufacturers of cosmetic, perfume, beverage, and specialty glass packaging have relied on Sames electrostatic rotary bell solutions to achieve high-quality decorative finishes and efficient production. This long-standing expertise has enabled Sames to develop application know-how covering a wide variety of bottle shapes, coating materials, color effects, and production requirements.
